This four (4) day course covers the fundamental principles of corrosion and cathodic protection and its practical applications such as marine structures in seawater environment. The course will provide corrosion prevention techniques, carrying out detailed information on cathodic protection specification, design, testing and monitoring. Applicable standards such as NACE, BS/ISO, and DnV relevant to material corrosion and cathodic protection design will be discussed. Oil Storage Tanks (API-650) – Project

This course offers an introduction about the importance, types, materials, dimensions, standards and finally the presentation of calculation spreadsheets that define the thickness to be used in each course of the shell according to the carbon steel specification, product density, joint efficiency , diameter and height. In addition to this approach, also will be presented calculation spreadsheets that define the use or not of stiffening rings along the tank shell due to the higher wind speed estimated in the area. On this occasion will be simulated several cases aiming to compare the results against the data of tanks already in operation. The evolution of this presentation will be enriched with numerous field records in order to clarify all the issues involved in the development of each topic.

Oil Storage Tanks (API-650) – From Construction to Commissioning

Receipt, identification, control and storage of materials on site. Qualification of welders according to specific procedures as well as procedures of consumables storage, calibration of equipment and instruments in general beyond of other procedures as construction, assembly and finally the hydrostatic test followed by all safety conditions involved in each step. On this occasion will be presented the constructive forms of Pontoon-Type floating roofs not forgetting of the buoyancy conditions in according to API-650 standard. As differential and unique, it will be presenting a calculation spreadsheet that defines the buoyancy limit for pontoon-type floating roof commonly used in tanks where the product volatility is very high what motivates this kind of roof.

MicroGeneration: Autonomous and Distributed Generation of electric power

In this course we will make an advanced study of the main features of the so-called distributed and local generation. The use of small available resources (solar, wind, hydroelectric, biomass, etc.) for power generation is the most viable alternative supply for remote areas or regions where the power utilities still do not deliver electricity, and even the future solution for big cities energy problems.
– Day1: Knowing the Micro Generation: Study of Global features of Micro generation, all the existing equipment and possibilities.
– Day2: Where did it work: Study of the biggest success cases focused on the change in generation strategies and legal incentives.

Failure Analysis

This course introduces failure analysis of mechanical components by theory and examples. Concepts of fracture mechanics are presented prior to on-site and laboratory inspection practices. Techniques such as optical stereoscopy, quantitative metallography, non-destructive testing (NDT), electronic microscopy and chemical microanalysis are approached through their use in the analysis of failed components. Finally, cases of failure in rolling elements, atmospheric and sea water corrosion, hydrogen cracking, structural welds and
fasteners are discussed.

Industrial electrical projects

This course was developed for designers of industrial electrical installations. The themes will provide basic knowledge for the initial planning of industrial electrical installations until the final test load. During the training will be shown the guidelines to make surveys of charges, the forms of distribution of power circuits, short circuits and power factor calculations, the dimensioning of the protections of the feeder circuits, switching equipment and motor protection electrical and characteristics of electrical installations of special purpose equipment. In addition, we discuss the safety aspects when working with electricity.
